I think that turning down the Nobel prize would be very rude [even if he didnt deserve it]. It would be undermining the committee's authority, its their job to make the decision and they work very hard to make the right choice.

I will only respect Onumbnuts when he, Joe Biden, and Nancy Pelosi resign their positions and get OUT of government. Until then, I will see him as only a charlatan huckster that will stop at nothing to make the US the most facist country since Nazi Germany.

If he had turned it down originally, I would have had a little bit of respect for him. But if he turns it down now....after the fact....no. That just means that he's doing it for political reasons, just because so many people were appalled that he received it in the first place.

I cannot respect Obama because he has lied to me enough that I can never trust him. I'm capable however of praise for isolated actions where it is due. I would have given him credit where credit is due in this instance had he conceded the prize to Soltan, but really to any of the millions more deserving than he and in need of the money that comes along it. Wish he'd ''spread the wealth'' from that prize, or at least put it in the ''collective'' pot.

First of all, recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize must be nominated by someone to the Nobel Committee, so the award cannot just be given away by anyone. Secondly, he said he was giving the prize money of $1.4 million away to charity. I don't think he can even do that! Back in 1966 Congress made it a law that politicians could not accept any gift with a value of over $100. I believe that was later changed to $1000. Anything worth over this amount had to be paid to the Federal Government if you wanted to keep the gift. So if I'm correct, the $1.4 million actually belongs to the Federal Government's coffers. I'm sure they'll have no problem finding a use for it! I just can't wait to find out who it was that nominated him for his peace contributions to society only 11 or 12 days after he became President of the United States. Maybe someone knows about all the terrific and peaceful things Obama is going to accomplish in the next 3 years, and they want him recognized before he's done anything!

It is impossible to respect anyone who accepts an award that comes with monetary compensation when they have not earned it. It is a perfect example of how how the fat cats on Wall Street and CEO's, VP's and Presidents of companies were compensated with millions of dollars in bonuses and bail out tax payers monies when they had not earned such a reward.
Compensating anyone should come from actually earning it. They gave him this award for what he may/may not do in the future. Kinda sounds familiar doesn't it. (wall street, AIG, car manufacturers, banking institutions, etc.)
Neda Agha-Soltan was not protesting at the time of being shot in the chest. She was on her way to protest 2009 election and was observing the sporadic nature of protesters on the sidelines. She would not be deserving of the Nobel Peace Price either. Although, believing in something is commendable, It was not a peaceful protest and was not thought to be from the begining.
She went knowing the risks regarding a protest that was suspected to become aggressive in nature. The 2009 fraudulent election was a real hot button topic and issue, and angered many. That being said, it did not justify the death of an innocent woman. Nor does it justify the Nobel Peace Prize.
How about the 40 men and women aboard Flight 93 who went down in Shanksville, P.A. that took down the terrorists and the air plane on 9/11/01 that was heading toward the White House. Where is their Nobel Prize??? Why not give a Nobel Peace Price to their families in honor of their act heroism and personal sacrifice on Sept. 11th, 2001.

I agree with that being the ONLY thing he could do to earn my respect but wouldn't it be a generous gesture? It won't happen, he is too big a narcissist!
