What Advice Would You Give To President Obama If The Taliban Get The Pakistani Nuclear Weapons?
November 9th, 2009If the Taliban are successful in their attempt to take over The Pakistani government and get their hands on the Nuclear Weapons of Pakistan what advice would you give President Obama if you were one of President Obama’s advisors?
Start praying to Allah, cause the SHTF.
Blame George W. Bush for that, too, because there’s damn all else he could do about it.
By the time the Taliban get access to Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, they’ll also have effective control of the Pakistani state, so American military options would strictly be limited. A pre-emptive strike on Pakistan’s nuclear assets would only create worse problems than it would solve.
The humanitarian disaster caused by dispersion of radionuclides downwind from a strike on a Pakistani nuclear installation alone could arguably be as bad as some terrorist uses of the weapons contained there.
If the Taliban get Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, then barring any imminent transfer of these weapons to al-Qaeda or another terrorist group, the only good advice would be to treat the situation as a fait accompli and attempt to engage the Taliban diplomatically in the same way that we engaged the previous Pakistani government.
I think/hope that the terrorists know that stepping past the nuclear line would be a devastating mistake for them. Every Muslim populated country in the world would be leveled in the counterstrike. Doesn’t matter what party is in the White House; it’s the only response that would quell the public after such an attack.
