If Israel defies Obama, he has numerous options. I’d hit them where it hurts the most, in their pocket book. He could:
1. Reduce or eliminate U.S. aid to Israel.
2. Limit private donations by American citizens to Israel.
3. Tighten the restraints on AIPAC, the pro-Israeli lobby in Washington, D. C.
4. Instruct the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. to not veto the sanctions against Israel that are routinely passed by the other nations.
5. Increase aid to Israel’s neighbors.
6. Quit supplying Israel with American-made arms.
7. Introduce trade restrictions on American commerce with Israel.
These are all within the President’s powers, and some combination of them would bring Netanyahu to his knees pronto.
Obama was elected President of the United States.
He was not coronated as King, and certainly not King of the World.
He has to learn that when seated at a table with leaders of other nations that they are his equals and cannot be dictated to.
If the President of another country, no matter how small decides to do something (ie. kill all people who wear red socks). Obama does not have the right to tell them to stop.
He can urge them to stop. He can try to influence them to stop (offer a carrot in the way of financial or military aid – or offer the stick in the way of sanctions).
Using the US military is not in the best interests of the country. No one from Congress would support him – Democrat OR Republican!
