While I agree with you that some greedy businesses take advantage of the undocumenteds lack of status, your correlation between that and slavery is way off the mark.
There is a massive difference between someone who is taken forcibly and against their will and forced to work for no wages and someone who crosses the border of their own free will (and often after multiple attempts) and either works illegally for lower wages or willingly commits fraud to obtain fake or stolen documents. Slaves had no choice. Undocumented aliens absolutely had a choice and should start taking responsibility for their own life decisions.
Amnesty won’t help this problem. If there is to be some form of amnesty, it should only be granted to those who go through the same rigorous checks that anyone who seeks to legally immigrate goes through and they should have to wait until the hundreds of thousands of petitions currently waiting years to be seen are cleared. At the same time, the border needs to be secured and something needs to be done to address the businesses who hire illegals – as it is, once these millions of illegals gain status, they will be fired and even more will flood across the border to take their place.

And the guy who breaks into your house and steals your stuff is a slave because the “fence” will not give him full value for the goods he stole? Interesting theory! Slaves were held. Illegals are free to leave! We will even help them! It’s called deportation!
They do come to this country to commit felony after felony! Over 99% of illegal aliens commit a felony within 30 days of their immigration violation and most commit multiple violations!
Their kids? What about our kids? Illegal aliens kill over 10,000 people in the US yearly! What about their rights?
Yes we have to get them out of the shadows and then out of the country! Good plan!

I agree with everyone that says people who come to USA without Visa or overstay their visa break immigration laws of our country. They must be punished for that.
But don’t u think coming to USA walking those miles in killer & lonely desert itself is punishment. working in farms, construction, restaurants and factories like slaves is punishment, living without any rights or driving license is punishment…. I guess we have punished them a lot. They do deserve better life after scarifying so much, its not that they are here for fun, they come here for better life for themselves and their kids just like our Great grandparents did for us.
It is interesting to see how the word “illegal” is used by those who strongly believe that immigrants are criminals. Don’t we all brake the law every now and then? Speeding on the freeway, not paying for cable or car insurance, and other rules and social responsibilities are constantly ignored by all of us. Not to mention Rape,bank robbers, rapist and con-artist . Everyone in the U.S, and I do? mean everyone, has broken the law at some point in their life; yet we don’t refer to each other as criminals or ilegals……….. who’s the illegal now?
Even a hardcore criminals like bank robbers, rapist and con-artist are given Second chance after serving 3-4 years in prison. I guess a life of illegal is worse then being in prison. While working, undocumented workers endure unfair treatment and wages because they fear being fired or reported to immigration or cops.
Just like every other criminal they too deserve a second chance, or we just want to keep them as slaves forever.
